Privacy policy

What I receive, what I don't, how I handle your data during an engagement, and how to reach me about it.

Last updated · 11 October 2026

The short version

This website (tenriverssystems.com) is a set of static pages. It sets no cookies and carries no advertising or remarketing trackers. It does load one small script from Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts page views and measures how quickly pages load, without cookies and without identifying you or following you to other sites. You can turn that script off below, and it never loads if your browser sends a Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal. The only personal information retained from the website is what you choose to send me. When you hire me, I handle your business data under the terms of your engagement; that section is below.

Who I am

Ten Rivers Systems LLC is a consulting company registered in North Carolina, United States, and is responsible for the personal information this policy describes. For anything in this policy, contact me at ryan@tenriverssystems.com.

Information I receive

  • When you email me. If you write to ryan@tenriverssystems.com, I receive your email address, your name if you include it, and whatever is in your message. My mailbox is hosted on Microsoft 365. The email links on this site open your own mail program with a subject line and a few labels filled in; nothing reaches me until you choose to send it.
  • When you visit. My host, Cloudflare, processes basic technical data such as your IP address and browser type to deliver pages, guard against abuse, and report network errors. Unless you have turned it off, the Cloudflare Web Analytics script also records the page you viewed, the page that linked you here, your browser and device type, and how long the page took to load, without cookies and without identifying you. Neither is used to build a profile or to contact you.
  • When you book a call. The booking links take you to Calendly and tell it which page of this site you clicked from, so I know what the call is likely to be about. That label names the page, never you. On the contact page you can also open Calendly's scheduler inside the page; nothing loads from Calendly until you choose to open it. What you enter on Calendly is covered under Service providers below.

Client data during an engagement

When you hire me, doing the work often means I am given access to your systems (your accounting file, your store, your bill-pay or tax tools) and to the data inside them. I treat that access as confidential and use it only to carry out the work you have asked for. Where I use AI tools as part of that work, they are selected and configured so that your data is not used to train a model, and I do not put client data into tools that do not offer that setting. I take the least access I need, keep any working copies secure, and return or delete them when the engagement ends, except where I am required to keep records. The specifics for your project, including who else may need access, are set out in your engagement letter, which governs if anything here conflicts with it.

How I use it

I use what you send me only to read and reply to your message, to provide any work you ask me to do, and to keep ordinary business records. I do not sell your personal information, and I do not share it except with the service providers below, as needed to perform your engagement, or where the law requires it.

Cookies and analytics

I set no cookies, and no advertising pixels or remarketing tags run on this site.

I use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count page views and see which guides get read. Its script loads from Cloudflare (static.cloudflareinsights.com) and sends Cloudflare the details listed under "When you visit" above. It works without cookies and without fingerprinting your browser, and it does not follow you to other sites. I see only totals, such as how often a page was viewed and which sites sent visitors. I cannot identify you from it, and I do not try.

You can turn it off. The switch below keeps your choice in this browser's own storage, which is not a cookie and is never sent to me, and the script stops loading from the next page you open. Clearing this site's data in your browser resets it.

JavaScript is off in this browser, so the analytics script cannot run and there is nothing to turn off.

Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control

If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal, the analytics script does not load, with nothing for you to click. The site has no other tracking, so that signal turns off everything there is to turn off. No third party collects information about your activity across other websites through this site.

Service providers

  • Cloudflare: website hosting, delivery and security, and the cookieless page-view analytics described above.
  • Calendly: scheduling, if you book a call. Calendly sets its own cookies on its own booking page, and inside the contact page's scheduler once you open it; that visit is governed by Calendly's privacy policy rather than this one.
  • Microsoft 365: my email.
  • The tools your project runs on. An engagement usually involves the platforms you already use (for example QuickBooks, Shopify, NetSuite, Avalara, or Bill.com); how each of those handles your data is governed by its own policy.
Where your information goes. When you email me, your address, name and message reach my mailbox, hosted on Microsoft 365. When you visit, Cloudflare delivers the page and, unless you have turned analytics off, counts the view without cookies. If you book a call, that booking is on Calendly, under Calendly's own privacy policy.

How long I keep it

I keep emails and related correspondence for as long as needed to help you and to meet legal or accounting obligations, then delete them. Ask me any time and I will remove correspondence I am not required to keep.

Your rights

Wherever you live, you can ask me what personal information I hold about you, ask for a copy of it, ask me to correct it or delete it, or ask me to stop using it for a particular purpose. Email ryan@tenriverssystems.com and I will respond within 30 days. I may ask you to confirm that the request comes from you, usually by replying from the address the information is linked to. Making a request will not change how I treat you.

I do not sell personal information, I do not share it for targeted advertising, and I do not use it to make automated decisions about you. I do not collect sensitive personal information through this website.

If you are in the EU, the UK or Switzerland

European and UK data protection law asks me to say why I use your information and where it goes.

  • Why. Replying to you rests on your request and my legitimate interest in answering it. Doing the work rests on our contract. Keeping business records rests on the legal obligations I am under. Analytics rests on my legitimate interest in knowing which pages are useful, which you can override with the switch above.
  • Where. I work from the United States, so your information is processed there. Cloudflare, Microsoft and Calendly each provide recognised safeguards for data leaving Europe and the UK, such as the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or standard contractual clauses.
  • Your further rights. You can also ask me to restrict how I use your information, ask for it in a portable format, or object to my using it. You have the right to complain to your local data protection authority, or in the UK to the Information Commissioner's Office, though I would welcome the chance to put things right first.

Children

This website is not directed at children under 13, and I do not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes

If this policy changes, I will update the page and the "last updated" date above. Material changes will be reflected here before they take effect.
